Abbas Busafuan is a journalist and former director of news at LuaLua TV in Bahrain. On 31 January 2015, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior revoked Busafuan’s citizenship, along with that of 71 other individuals, citing involvement in a number of “illegal acts”, without specifying who was responsible for which act. The Ministry claimed the revocations were in line with citizens’ duty to act in the national interest. The decision was made under a revision to Article 10(c) of the Bahraini Citizenship Law, approved by the Council of Ministers, making such revocations extremely difficult to appeal.
