Mazen Mahdi
Mazen Mahdi is a Bahraini photojournalist working for the German Press Agency (DPA) and the European Press Photo Agency (EPA). On 5 January 2015, while covering protests following the arrest of opposition leader Ali Salman, Mahdi was hit with tear gas in the village of Bilad Al-Qadeem, a suburb of Manama. On 25 March 2017, Mahdi was injured when police fired a tear gas canister at his head while he covered the funeral of Mustafa Hamdan, an 18-year-old protester fatally shot during a peaceful demonstration in Duraz. On both occasions, Mahdi was targeted despite clearly wearing a press vest.
