Sattar Beheshti
Sattar Beheshti was an Iranian blogger born in August 1977 who was known for openly criticizing the Iranian government on social media, especially Facebook. He was arrested in early November 2012 by the cyber-police unit of Iran and died in custody on 3 November 2012, just days after his arrest, as a result of severe torture and ill-treatment. Beheshti had already complained of harsh treatment during his detention. His death sparked immediate international condemnation and led to the dismissal of the head of the cyber-police unit involved, highlighting the systemic impunity surrounding the deaths of political prisoners in Iran.
