Adnan Al-Rousan is a Jordanian journalist and columnist known for his critical writings on government policies and social issues. On 15 August 2022, he was arrested at his home in Amman by seven individuals, without being informed of the charges against him. His arrest was reportedly ordered by the public prosecutor under Jordan’s Cybercrime Law, which criminalizes online content deemed offensive to the state or its institutions. Adnan Al-Rousan had recently published Facebook posts criticizing the government and the king, including one stating, “Jordan isn’t your property, it’s for us Jordanians”. Following his detention, he was held at Marka prison in Amman for a week and faced charges under the Cybercrime Law.
