Taghreed Risheq is a Jordanian journalist who has been directly affected by the restrictive environment for freedom of expression in Jordan. In March 2022, she was detained at Amman airport following a defamation complaint filed against her under Jordan’s Cybercrime Law, which criminalizes online criticism of the government, the King, or state institutions. Her experience, along with those of other detained journalists such as Adnan Al-Rousan and Daoud Kuttab, reflects a broader pattern that undermines Jordan’s stated commitment to political reform and press freedom.
