Ahmed Muslim Al-Kathiri is an Omani engineer and online activist who works as a project engineer at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Dhofar Governorate. Al-Kathiri is known for his online engagement on Twitter, where he comments on issues of governance, justice, and public interest, particularly the controversial distribution of the Al-Morouj lands. On 28 February 2022, following a ruling by the Administrative Court of Dhofar Governorate that dismissed a lawsuit against the Governor of Dhofar concerning the unlawful allocation of Al-Morouj lands, Al-Kathiri criticized the decision in a tweet. He denounced the lack of judicial independence in Oman and stated that injustice in the judiciary undermines rather than consolidates national unity. On 2 March 2022, security authorities arrested Al-Kathiri. Since then, he has been held incommunicado, without access to his family or legal representation. His detention has raised serious concerns of arbitrary arrest and denial of due process.
