Nasr Al-Bousaidi
Nasr Al-Bousaidi is a popular Omani broadcaster, talk show host, and Internet activist who has been targeted by the authorities for his outspoken views. Originally from Nizwa and residing in Muscat, Al-Bousaidi currently works as a presenter on Al-Shabiba (Youth) Radio, while also using his Twitter account to comment on matters of public interest, advocate for civic freedoms, and defend the rights of the Palestinian people.
On 30 June 2021, Al-Bousaidi was detained and interrogated over tweets in which he criticised the procedures of the higher government committee responsible for managing the response to Covid-19. He was released on 3 July 2021 after several days in custody, during which his detention sparked widespread attention online. The hashtag #Free_Nasr_Al_Bousaidi trended on Twitter in Oman, reflecting his popularity and the public concern surrounding his arrest. Just weeks earlier, on 25 May 2021, during popular protests that had erupted across Oman, Al-Bousaidi had used his platform to call for constructive solutions rather than repression. In one tweet, he wrote: “In many crises, do not plan who to arrest. Rather, make all your focus towards the solution. Whatever you think, only the solution will end everything.”
