Mohammed Yousef Al-Sulaiti

Mohammed Yousef Al-Sulaiti is a Qatari citizen and online activist who has been subjected to arbitrary detention and travel bans by Qatari authorities. On 04 October 2020, he was arrested from his home by State Security officers, following a tweet in which he protested an arbitrary travel ban imposed on him. His Twitter account was deleted after his arrest, and he remains detained in a State Security Bureau prison. This isn’t the first time Al-Sulaiti has faced such treatment. Indeed, in July 2018, he was detained for five months without charge after being stopped at Hamad International Airport while en route to Turkey. During this period, he was held and denied access to legal representation, allowing only limited contact with his family. Despite international condemnation, including from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, he remains imprisoned without formal charges or a clear legal basis.
