Joan Farso was a Syrian blogger and member of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM). On 16 February 2012, Farso was arrested during a raid by Air Force Intelligence on the SCM’s offices in Damascus and subsequently held incommunicado. On 22 April 2012, she was presented before the Military Prosecutor and charged under Article 148 of the Syrian Criminal Code with “possessing prohibited materials with the intent to disseminate them” and transferred to Adra Central Prison to await a military trial. As of the latest information available, there has been no update regarding her release, trial outcome, health, or whereabouts.
