Dr Hussain Ali Al-Najjar Al-Hammadi

Dr Hussain Ali Al-Najjar Al-Hammadi, United Arab Emirates, former science teacher and human rights defender, was arrested on 9 April 2012 as part of the mass suppression known as the “UAE 94” trial. Convicted in an unfair mass trial by the Federal Supreme Court on 2 July 2013, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment followed by three years probation, and denied any possibility of appeal. Although his formal sentence should have ended on 9 April 2022, no reliable reports indicate his release, and credible sources express concerns about violations of fair trial standards and continued arbitrary detention.
