Badr Al-Sawari, brother of the Yemeni journalist Yahya al-Sawari, has been the victim of enforced disappearance in the Mahra governorate since his detention by militia forces loyal to Governor Rajeh Bakrit in July 2019. His disappearance occurred shortly after his brother Yahya was arrested and subsequently escaped after fifty-six days in secret detention centers. Despite Yahya’s escape, GCHR reports that Badr remains missing, with no confirmed information on his fate, location, or any proceedings relating to his disappearance. Human rights groups continue to call for his immediate and unconditional release, for transparency about his whereabouts, and for protection of human rights defenders throughout the conflict.
