Ibrahim Mothana
Ibrahim Mothana was a Yemeni youth activist, political organiser, pro-democracy campaigner and critic of drone strikes, who suddenly died at home in Sana’a on 05 September 2013 at age 24. He was co-founder of the Watan (New Yemen) Party, served as an election observer in several Arab countries (including Yemen 2006, Egypt 2012, Libya), worked with organisations such as UNESCO, the Arab Thought Foundation, Human Rights Watch, and was known for his thoughtful writings on drones, social justice and political reform. His death was reported as sudden. The cause was not confirmed in public reporting, though some sources mentioned a heart attack. His case drew widespread mourning within Yemeni civil society and beyond, as he was seen as one of the leading young voices of the youth-led uprising of 2011, committed to peaceful change, transparency and human rights.
