Mohammed Ibrahim
Mohamed Ibrahim Radwan, known as Mohamed “Oxygen”, is an Egyptian blogger and journalist who gained prominence through his blog and YouTube channel “Oxygen Egypt”, where he reported on human rights issues, political developments, and social injustices. On 21 September 2019, he was arrested while complying with probation measures at the Al-Basateen police station in Cairo. He was forcibly disappeared for 18 days before reappearing before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, where he faced charges including “joining a terrorist group” and “spreading false news”. On 20 December 2021, the Emergency State Security Misdemeanour Court sentenced him to four years in prison for “spreading false news that would affect the national security of the country”, a verdict not subject to appeal . Throughout his detention, Oxygen has been subjected to severe mistreatment, including prolonged solitary confinement, denial of family visits since March 2020, and lack of access to necessary medical care. In April 2024, he initiated a hunger strike to protest the inhumane conditions of his detention, which include confinement in a small, windowless cell infested with insects and continuous exposure to artificial light.
Oxygen was released on 20 March 2026 by presidential pardon. He was awarded the RSF Courage Prize in 2023, while in detention.
