Abdulrahman Al-Nahhas
Abdulrahman Al-Nahhas is a Syrian human rights defender currently imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for his work in the field of human rights activism. Al-Nahhas was arrested by UAE State Security forces on 23 December 2019, cut off from his family and legal counsel until January 2021. On 08 September 2021, Al-Nahhas was sentenced to 10 years in prison for allegedly “belonging to a terrorist organisation” and “insulting the prestige of the state.” Since his arrest, he has been subjected to torture, medical negligence, and alleged sexual violence, while being kept in conditions that have lead to the severe deterioration of his mental and physical health.
