Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mansi

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mansi is a Jordanian academic and civil society activist who has been subject to judicial harassment for his public defence of religious institutions. On 10 August 2023, the Court of Appeal sentenced him to four months of imprisonment following a defamation complaint filed by the Minister of Awqaf. The case originated from social media posts in which Al-Mansi defended the Association for the Preservation of the Holy Qur’an and expressed opposition to the closure of some of its centres. It is noteworthy that the Court of First Instance had previously dismissed the complaint, ruling that Dr. Al-Mansi was not legally responsible. However, the appellate court reversed this decision, emphasising concerns regarding the suppression of freedom of expression and the targeting of individuals advocating for religious and civil liberties in Jordan.
