Tariq Saeed Al-Omari

Tariq Saeed Mahad Al-Omari, a citizen of the Omani Dhofar Governorate, has been subjected to judicial harassment on account of his religious expression. On 17 September 2023, he was convicted for publishing materials intended to incite religious strife and create division. The court imposed a sentence of two years’ imprisonment on him. His mobile phone was confiscated by the court, and he was acquitted of the misdemeanour charge of using information technology to publish content that could harm public order. This case is part of a broader pattern of repression against individuals from the Al-Mashani tribe, who have faced arrests and convictions for engaging in religious practices that deviate from the official orientation of the country.
