Duaa Al-Asadi

Iraqi civil society activist Duaa Al-Asadi was arrested on 24 November 2024 at the hospital where she works as a paramedic in Nasiriyah, Iraq. Following a social media post questioning the governor’s absence, she was charged with inciting demonstrations, and then released on bail two days later, on 26 November 2024. Al-Asadi is recognised as one of the free and courageous voices in Nasiriyah, having been a prominent participant and symbol of the October 2019 protest movement.
