Ziyad Al-Sufyani is a Saudi human rights defender, recognized for his contributions to Arabic Wikipedia. In 2012, Ziyad Al-Sufyani founded the reading club at Taif University, demonstrating his commitment to promoting knowledge and civic engagement. As a Wikipedia administrator since 2011, Ziyad Al-Sufyani actively edited and created pages, including those highlighting the work of prominent Saudi women’s rights activists. In September 2020, Ziyad Al-Sufyani was arrested by Saudi authorities and subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison by the Specialised Criminal Court on charges related to his online activities and expressions of opinion. He was freed in March 2025.
