Mahmoud Saeed Al-Mashani
Mahmoud Saeed Al-Mashani is an Omani citizen from the Dhofar Governorate who has faced judicial harassment from the authorities related to his religious expression. On 17 September 2023, he was convicted of the felony of publishing content likely to incite religious and sectarian strife plus provoking division among residents. He was sentenced to two years in prison, of which three months are to be served, with the remainder suspended. He was also ordered to pay court costs. The prosecution is part of a larger effort to crack down on individuals from the Al-Mashani tribe. Human rights organizations have expressed their concern about the case and urged Oman to fulfill its constitutional and international obligations regarding freedom of belief and expression.
