Ghassan Najjar

Ghassan Najjar was a cameraman working for Al-Mayadeen who was killed alongside his colleagues Mohammad Reda and Wissam Qassem in an Israeli airstrike on 25 October 2024 in Hasbaya, Lebanon. The journalists were staying at a clearly-marked press compound when, at 3:00 AM, an Israeli fighter jet launched two missiles at their house, killing all three men and seriously injuring three others in their sleep. The location had been used for 23 days by journalists, their vehicles bore “Press” markings, and they wore flak jackets and helmets identifying them as members of the media. There was no fighting in the area at the time or before the strike, and the attack has been widely condemned as a war crime. UN Special Rapporteur Irene Khan referred to the killing as “yet another war crime against journalists.”
