Wissam Qassem

Wissam Qassem was a cameraman working for Al-Manar who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on 25 October 2024 in Hasbaya, southern Lebanon. He died alongside fellow journalists Ghassan Najjar and Mohammad Reda when an Israeli jet launched two missiles at a house used by media crews, striking at 3:00 AM. The location had been used by journalists for twenty-three consecutive days, and was clearly marked with press signs on vehicles and protective gear. No military activity had been reported in the area prior to the strike. Wissam Qassem’s death was part of a deliberate attack on a known media compound and has been widely condemned, including by UN Special Rapporteur Irene Khan, who referred to the killing as “yet another war crime against journalists.”
