Awad Kashmim, editor of the pro‑government newspaper 30 November in Mukalla, was arbitrarily arrested on 21 February 2018 by security forces under the orders of the Hadramout governor. Shortly before his arrest, he published a Facebook editorial criticising military operations west of Mukalla against Al‑Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. He was held incommunicado, with authorities denying custody, prompting RSF and the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate to declare him “missing” amid fears of torture following interrogation by military intelligence.
