Naseh Shakir
Naseh Shakir, a freelance journalist based in Sanaa, Yemen, was abducted on 19 November 2023 after traveling to Aden to attend a hostile environment training course organized by the Samir Kassir Foundation. He was last heard from during a phone call with his mother at around 5:30 a.m local time. Since then, he has been unreachable, and his mobile phone was switched off. The Committee to Protect Journalists has expressed deep concern over his disappearance and called on the Southern Transitional Council, the de facto authority in southern Yemen, to disclose his whereabouts. CPJ and other organizations, including the Samir Kassir Foundation and the Rory Peck Trust, believe that Shakir is being held in a prison run by the STC, and his case amounts to enforced disappearance. The STC has not acknowledged his detention or provided any information regarding his status.
