Dr. Ibrahim Al-Harthi is a Saudi teacher and speaker from Jeddah, who was arrested on 11 September 2017 in a raid on his home by armed security personnel. He was tried by the Specialised Criminal Court and initially sentenced to four years in prison, a sentence that was later arbitrarily increased to eight years. During his detention he was held in Al-Ha’ir prison (Riyadh) and later at Dhahban Prison (Jeddah Province), subjected to solitary confinement, secret trial procedures lacking due process, and other abuses such as denial of family contact and legal safeguards. He was released in June 2025, after nearly eight years of arbitrary detention.
