Yasser El-Juboori
Yasser El-Juboori is an Iraqi blogger and online activist, known for his outspoken views against corruption. He regularly uses his account on X to express his personal views, including criticisms of the Iraqi government. He also holds an Irish citizenship, and currently lives in Dublin, Ireland. On 26 February 2024, a week after travelling to Iraq from Ireland to visit his sick mother, he was arrested by an Iraqi security force without a judicial warrant. While imprisoned, he was beaten, insulted, and had his personal items confiscated. He engaged in a hunger strike in protest of the inhumane conditions he was being subjected to. After a widespread solidarity campaign was launched in support of him online under the hashtag #Freedom_for_Yasser, as well as pressure from the Irish government, he was released on 29 February 2024. He returned home to Dublin on 05 March 2024.
