Abu Al-Yasa Al-Rawahi

Dr Abdulmajeed bin Hamoud Al-Rawahi, known as Abu Al-Yasa Al-Rawahi, is an Omani veterinarian and internet activist who was arrested on 17 February 2022 following a tweet critical of the ruling family. In his post, Abu Al-Yasa Al-Rawahi commented on a photograph shared by the royal family, stating : “The people are waiting for you to save them from what they are facing and not waiting for you to show family photos wherever you go… the people are in debt and lack your initiatives and ideas, not photos of a parade.” This tweet was reportedly the primary reason for his arrest. Abu Al-Yasa Al-Rawahi is known for using his Twitter account to express views on public affairs and defend civil and human rights. On 25 December 2021, he tweeted in solidarity with media figure Kholoud Al-Omari after her program “All Questions” was arbitrarily removed from the air, questioning the silence of Shura Council members. He also criticized the government’s lack of oversight over utility companies, questioning whether founders of these companies prioritized profits over citizens welfare. He was released after four days of detention on 21 February 2022.
