Sara Hosseinzadeh
Sara Hosseinzadeh, an Iranian woman human rights defender, translator and former political prisoner, has been associated with the Woman, Life, Freedom protest movement and activism in Urmia, Iran, where she engaged in peaceful protest and civic mobilisation during nationwide demonstrations against social injustice and state repression. Prior to the latest unrest, Sara was reportedly arrested in 2022 along with other activists in Urmia amid a wave of arrests targeting women involved in rights activism, and she has a history of detention linked to her peaceful civic activities. During the escalation of protests that began in late December 2025, Hosseinzadeh was detained again by security forces. According to reports from human rights monitoring networks and information shared on her social media, she has been missing since 19 January 2026, with authorities refusing to acknowledge her detention or disclose her whereabouts in prison or another facility, raising serious concerns of enforced disappearance.
