Muzahim Bajaber
Muzahim Bajaber is a Yemeni journalist and editor who has faced continuous harassment and legal action for his reporting on corruption and public affairs. On 08 April 2025, the Specialised Criminal Prosecution in Hadhramaut Governorate issued an order to forcibly bring him, along with journalists Abduljabbar Omar Bajber and Sabri Salmeen Bin Makhashin, before the court for failing to comply with previous summons. Two days later, on 10 April 2025, the Director of Hadhramaut Police issued arrest warrants against the three, stating they were wanted for investigation by the Specialised Criminal Prosecution. This move violated Article 13 of Yemen’s Press and Publications Law, which protects journalists expressing opinions. On 03 June 2025, his colleague Sabri Bin Makhashin posted an appeal on Facebook on behalf of all three journalists, stating: “I carried my pen along with my fellow journalists, Abduljabbar Bajber and Muzahim Bajaber, and our pages embraced the causes of the oppressed and downtrodden, and we published major and horrific corruption cases that are destroying the national economy.” He denounced the coercive orders and called on civil society organisations to support them. Bajaber’s targeting followed a pattern of previous incidents in which local authorities attempted to silence independent media through arbitrary arrests, trials, and intimidation. Reports confirmed that this legal action came after the journalists had published sensitive reports exposing major corruption cases in Hadhramaut, underscoring the political nature of the prosecution and the broader crackdown on press freedom in the governorate.
