Maneh Mohammed Suleiman
Maneh Mohammed Suleiman is a Yemeni political activist who was released on 20 July 2025 in Marib Governorate after being detained for over a year and four months. He was arrested on 18 July 2023 by military police in Marib, despite his civilian status, and held in a prison affiliated with the Political Security Organisation. His targeting appears linked to his bold political activism, notably his use of Facebook to openly criticise corruption in local government and security institutions. He was released from Marib Central Prison following a ruling by the Marib Court of First Instance ordering his release on financial bail related to debts exceeding 15 million Yemeni riyals. His wife, Umm Hamid Suleiman, took to Facebook to express: “Finally, my husband is free… Thanks to everyone who stood with us and showed solidarity with us.” Upon his release, he resumed posting extensively about the serious violations he alleged had occurred in the Political Security Organisation’s prison in Marib, particularly torture. On 11 August 2025, he wrote: “I am in hiding to protect myself from assassination cells… not to escape justice.” On the same day, he sent a letter to all Yemeni authorities, including the Presidential Leadership Council, calling on them to “form a fact-finding committee on the issues that were reported before my arrest by the Political Security Service in Marib and the issues that were reported after my release from detention, most notably the assassination and torture cells in prisons.”
