Ghassan Jawad

Ghassan Jawad is a union leader from Yemen. He was arrested on 27 July 2025 by forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council based on directives issued by the Press and Publications Prosecutor following a lawsuit filed against him by the Aden Refinery Company. He is a prominent union leader at the Aden Refinery Company, known for his steadfast defence of workers rights, particularly demanding salary payments, restarting operations, and distribution of oil revenue incentives. Dozens of refinery workers, rallying in protest, threatened to halt fuel supply if their demands remained unmet, amplifying Ghassan’s prominence as a labour advocate. The arrest has drawn sharp criticism from labour activists and observers who view it as a politically-motivated attempt to suppress union action and worker mobilisation.
