Hassan Ziad is a correspondent for The New Arab from Yemen. He was arbitrarily arrested on 21 May 2025 in Al-Hudaydah Governorate by an armed group affiliated with the Houthis without a judicial warrant as part of a coordinated sweep targeting around 13 journalists and media professionals. He has since been held by the Security and Intelligence Service in Al-Hudaydah without formal charges. The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate denounced the arrests on 25 May 2025, characterising them as an attack on journalists and freedom of opinion and expression. The National Organization of Yemeni Reporters also condemned the campaign, calling it a systematic crime against press freedom in Yemen and urging solidarity and urgent action from the international community.
