Sarvenaz Ahmadi
Sarvenaz Ahmadi is an Iranian journalist and social worker who was arrested on 06 November 2022 alongside her husband, journalist Kamyar Fakour, following a raid on their home in Tehran by security forces. On 25 October 2022, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to five years in prison for “gathering and colluding with the intention of acting against national security” and one year for “propaganda activities against the state”. This sentence was later reduced to three years and six months by the Court of Appeals on 05 March 2023. Ahmadi was released on bail in December 2022 but was re-arrested on 10 May 2023 to serve her sentence. During her imprisonment, she endured harsh conditions, including censorship of her translations and denial of medical care, leading her to undertake a hunger strike in protest. She was conditionally released from prison in December 2024 after serving approximately one year and seven months of her sentence.
