Nawras Adnan is an Iraqi civil society activist, engineer and member of Iraqi Human Rights Watch who has been targeted by the authorities for expressing his opinions on public affairs in a context of restrictions on freedom of expression in Iraq. Adnan has used his social media platforms to address issues affecting citizens and to speak out against corruption. On 24 November 2025, he was summoned by the Karbala Governorate Intelligence Directorate and, on 25 November 2025, he was arrested following questioning and referred to an investigating judge, who ordered his detention pending investigation. His detention was linked to a previous post published on his Facebook page in which he expressed his personal views on public issues. On 30 November 2025, Nawras Adnan was released on bail.
