Ahed Yassin
Ahed Yassin is a Yemeni journalist and human rights defender. She is a media professional and presenter on Al-Jumhuriya TV who has been subject to an organised campaign of incitement and threats linked to her independent journalistic work and outspoken presence in public discourse. On 25 November 2025 she posted on her Facebook page that she was the target of an organised incitement campaign by hardline clerics and some members of parliament affiliated with the internationally recognised Yemeni government, based on her appearance and choice of clothing while performing her professional duties. She stated that she rejected the campaign and affirmed her commitment to continue her media work despite repeated threats and calls for her prosecution. Ahed Yassin’s public statement noted that attempts were made to force her to apologise or justify her personal choices, and that there were demands that the owner of her television channel require her to wear specific clothing or face dismissal, a situation she characterised as an attack on her personal freedoms and professional independence. In a statement to the Gulf Centre for Human Rights she said that her “current situation is not safe” because of the influence wielded by those inciting against her and that she may face persecution even while abroad in Egypt, where she currently resides, emphasising her resolve not to “hide” or accept external control over her life and work.
