Abdulrahman Yusuf Al-Qaradawi
Abdulrahman Yusuf Al-Qaradawi is an Egyptian-Turkish poet and writer who was subject to an enforced disappearance in January 2025, after an extradition from Lebanon to the UAE. Al-Qaradawi was initially detained in Lebanon on 28 December 2024, upon his return from Syria, and was subsequently unable to be contacted by his family or legal representation, calling his safety into question. On 27 August 2026, the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal’s Cybercrime Circuit had ruled to convict him, sentencing him to ten years’ imprisonment and fining him AED 200,000. His charges were related to posting online statements that were considered stirring and upsetting to national security. On September 04 2026, it was announced that Al-Qaradawi was pardoned; thus, he was released.
