Abdullah Habib
Abdullah Habib is a prominent Omani writer, cinema critic, and online activist known for his contributions to literature, film, and public discourse on social and political issues. He has published several books, produced numerous short films, and written extensively in national newspapers. He has been actively involved in defending human rights and freedom of expression, both online and offline. His activism includes using social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to support fellow activists and advocate for citizens’ rights in Oman. In April 2016, Habib was summoned by the Omani Internal Security Service (ISS) and immediately detained incommunicado by the Special Division of the Omani Police General Command. During his detention, he was denied access to family and legal counsel. His arrest appeared to be linked to his public support for Hafiz Mohammad Shaker, the son of human rights defender Habiba Al-Hanaei, and to his writings defending human rights and reform in Oman. Habib was released from prison on 4 May 2016 by order of Sultan Qaboos.
