Abbas Jarkhi

Abbas Jarkhi is a Kuwaiti citizen. On 23 November 2021, Jarkhi was arbitrarily arrested by the State Security Bureau while on his way to work. According to local reports, he was subjected to lengthy interrogations and faces unconfirmed allegations of financing terrorism and money laundering, though no formal charges have been filed. During his detention, Jarkhi was denied access to legal counsel, family visits, and phone calls, in clear violation of the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Nelson Mandela Rules), including Rule 5, which emphasizes that prison conditions should mirror, as closely as possible, life outside detention. On 03 February 2022, Jarkhi was released after posting bail of 5,000 Kuwaiti dinars.
