Wissam Al-Ghanimi was an Iraqi photojournalist and sports photographer. On 28 July 2025, Al-Ghanimi’s body was found in a remote area near the Third River in the Al-Badir district of Al-Qadisiyah Governorate, two days after he had been reported missing. The body bore multiple stab wounds to the back, abdomen and chest and his vehicle was found at the same location. Local authorities announced the arrest of two suspects the following day, both residents of the governorate, one from Afak district and the other from Al-Badir district, while the motive for the killing has not been publicly disclosed and investigations were reported to be ongoing.
