Abdulrahman Shdeifat

Abdulrahman Shdeifat is a Jordanian human rights defender who has been repeatedly subjected to administrative and security restrictions reflecting the Jordanian authorities’ sustained campaign to curb independent civic activism. Shdeifat and fellow activist Ahmed Al-Neimat were prevented from travelling abroad in 2022 without any publicly disclosed judicial orders, a practice emblematic of the opaque and arbitrary nature of movement restrictions imposed through security channels. These measures, applied without due process or judicial oversight, amount to de facto travel bans that curtail freedom of movement and association. In addition to mobility restrictions, human rights monitors have reported that Shdeifat has faced various forms of administrative harassment and surveillance linked to his engagement in peaceful activism and defence of civic freedoms. Such actions are inconsistent with Jordan’s obligations under Article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and demonstrate how extrajudicial controls continue to be used to punish and intimidate human rights defenders
