Muin Al-Harasis
Muin Al-Harasis is a Jordanian political activist residing in Türkiye who has faced administrative restrictions that impede his freedom of movement. On 08 July 2024, Al-Harasis was refused the renewal of his passport after months of inquiries, with consular staff citing an adverse decision by the General Intelligence Directorate without providing any legal justification or avenue of appeal. This refusal effectively deprived him of a valid travel document and constrained his right to return, raising serious concerns under Article 12 (4) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. In addition to administrative obstacles, Al-Harasis has been subjected to smear campaigns and coordinated online harassment, reflecting a broader pattern of targeting human rights defenders through reputational attacks and digital intimidation. Such practices aim to discredit legitimate human-rights work, deter civic engagement, and create personal safety risks, with gendered impacts particularly affecting women human rights defenders in similar contexts.
