Abbas Al-Sameea

Abbas Al-Sameea was a political prisoner in Bahrain who was sentenced to death for the alleged killing of three policemen. He was held at Jaw Prison, a facility widely criticised for systematic abuse. On 12 April 2015, during a family visit, he appeared with visible signs of severe mistreatment, including a broken nose, missing front teeth, swollen gums that prevented him from eating or drinking, and tissue in his ear to stop bleeding. This information was included in a letter written by Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, addressed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and was also reported by Bahrain Mirror based on accounts from relatives of detainees. Al-Sameea was executed on 15 January 2017.
