Abduljabbar Ali Ziyad

Abduljabbar Ali Ziyad is a Yemeni photojournalist and former Reuters photographer. He was arbitrarily arrested on 21 May 2025 in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen, by an armed group affiliated with the Houthis without a judicial warrant, as part of a larger campaign targeting journalists and media professionals. Alongside at least twelve other media figures, including Walid Ali Ghaleb and Hassan Ziyad, Abduljabbar was transferred to the Security and Intelligence Service prison in Al-Hudaydah, where he remains detained without formal charges. The arrests provoked strong condemnation from the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, which issued a statement on 25 May 2025 denouncing the campaign as an attack on journalists and freedom of opinion and expression. Local sources highlighted that Abduljabbar’s long-standing work as a photographer documenting political and humanitarian issues in Yemen, including his years with Reuters, made him a visible target for harassment by de facto authorities.
