Abdulkhaleq Ahmed Amran

Abdulkhaleq Ahmed Amran is a Yemeni journalist who was abducted by Houthi forces in 2015 along with eight other journalists. In April 2020, the Specialised Criminal Court in Sana’a sentenced Abdulkhaleq Amran and three of his colleagues (Akram Saleh Al-Walidi, Al-Hareth Saleh Hamid, and Tawfiq Mohammed Al-Mansouri) to death on charges of “collaborating with the enemy,” referring to the Saudi-led coalition. During his eight-year detention, Abdulkhaleq Amran endured severe psychological and physical torture, leading to lasting health issues. He was released on 16 April 2023 as part of a UN-mediated prisoner exchange between the Houthis and the internationally-recognised Yemeni government.
