Abdullah bin Ahmed Bu Matar Al-Mohannadi
Abdullah bin Ahmed Bu Matar Al-Mohannadi is a Qatari human rights defender who, since 1 September 2013, has been subject to arbitrary travel restrictions imposed by the State Security Bureau without any formal charges or legal justification. These restrictions include severe limitations on the use of his national ID card. Despite numerous appeals to the authorities, his requests for the travel ban to be lifted were consistently denied without explanation. In July 2022, Abdullah bin Ahmed Bu Matar Al-Mohannadi co-founded the National Campaign for Travel-Banned Citizens to advocate on behalf of individuals facing similar unjust travel bans. As the general coordinator of the campaign, he was arrested by the state security apparatus on 21 July 2022, along with colleagues Issa Mardi Juhaim Al-Shammari and Saud bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani, and held in solitary confinement without access to legal counsel or family contact. While Issa Mardi Juhaim Al-Shammari was released on 22 September 2022, Abdullah bin Ahmed Bu Matar Al-Mohannadi and Saud bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani remained in arbitrary detention, highlighting ongoing violations of basic rights and freedoms by Qatari authorities.
