Abdulrahman Anis was subject to a lawsuit filed by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden seeking to restrict his ability to practise his profession, reflecting the use of judicial mechanisms to intimidate and silence independent media voices. On 09 November 2025, Abdulrahman Anis appeared before the Press, Publications and Electronic Publishing Prosecution Office in Aden in response to the STC’s complaint, and the prosecution granted a period for both his defence and the STC’s legal team to submit relevant evidence, with no date set for further hearings, underscoring ongoing legal uncertainty and pressure on his journalistic work. Women Journalists Without Chains and other press freedom advocates characterised the prosecution of Abdulrahman Anis as a grave assault on press freedom and a violation of Yemenis’ rights to opinion and expression, core protections under the Yemeni constitution and international law.
