Abdulrasheed Al-Faqih

Abdulrasheed Al-Faqih, Executive Director of Mwatana for Human Rights, Yemeni human rights defender, has endured repeated arbitrary detention, travel bans, interrogations, physical assault, and confiscation of documents by various parties : on 9 August 2015, during a protest, he was arrested by Houthi authorities in Sana’a, interrogated for five hours, and beaten before being released. Then  on 19 September 2015, he and Radhya Al-Mutawakel were detained and he was held for ten hours after being assaulted by Houthi women. Again on 4 March 2016, upon returning from Amman at Sanaa International Airport, he was detained, interrogated, and had his passport confiscated. On 14 June 2018, at the Al-Falaj checkpoint in Marib, he was detained by Hadi-affiliated forces, physically abused, threatened with a rifle, had his belongings confiscated, then released hours later. Then on 18 June 2018, he and Al-Mutawakel were detained for around 12 to 15 hours at Seiyun Airport by Saudi/UAE-led coalition authorities, during which their passports, IDs, and luggage were seized and their departure prevented. More recently, on 30 September 2023, the Houthi authorities barred both him and Al-Mutawakel from traveling through Sana’a International Airport without legal justification.
