Adel Sekeri, a Kurdish cameraman working for the satellite channel Zoom in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, was detained by Asayish security forces on 10 July 2024 in Dohuk Governorate while covering Turkish attacks alongside journalist Hajin Fatah Rikani and a driver. The three-member crew was arrested for documenting Turkish military operations in the area. While Fatah Rikani was released after a few hours, Sekeri and the driver remained in custody until the following day. This incident reflects ongoing harassment of media professionals reporting on cross-border strikes and human rights violations in Iraqi Kurdistan, particularly by security forces linked to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
