Ali Mahdi Ajeel is a civil society activist from Dhi Qar Governorate, Iraq. He was arrested on 15 October 2024 by the Ministry of Interior’s Intelligence Agency. Unlike other activists arrested during the same period, who were charged with inciting protests, Ajeel faced charges of insulting a security agency based on an audio recording. He was released on 02 December 2024 along with several other activists following public pressure and solidarity campaigns.
