Ali Mahmoud Abboud Al-Sabawi was a prominent Iraqi civil society activist, known for his active participation in the popular October movement since its start in 2019. On 16 October 2023, shortly after his participation in a demonstration in Al-Tahrir Square on 1 October 2023, he was assassinated by unknown gunmen using a silencer pistol. He had been posting actively about the movement on his Facebook page, calling for justice for those who had been previously killed in protests.
