Ali Saleh is a correspondent for the NRT satellite television channel in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, he was detained on 24 June 2025 by security forces in Sulaymaniyah while covering a news report in the city’s public market. Alongside photojournalist Mir Sarkawt, Saleh was reporting on the deteriorating living conditions and weakened purchasing power of citizens due to delayed public salary payments. The media crew was taken to the Internal Security Directorate, where all their equipment, including cameras and mobile phones, was confiscated. They were released after six hours, and their equipment was returned.
